Deputies responded to the Coquina Oaks Trailer Park, at 7:30 p.m. The female victim (Ja’khriah Monique), 19-months old, got out of her mobile home and began to run after her mother who was taking trash to a nearby trash bin. The driver of the vehicle, Preston Storey, 59, was leaving the trailer park when he spotted a friend and began to back up. He did not see the child and struck her while backing up. The girl was treated at the scene by County Rescue Personnel and was then taken to Flagler Hospital. She was then flown to Shands/Jacksonville for further treatment. Her condition is serious but she should make a full recovery and is expected to be taken to Nemours Children’s Hospital. Charges are pending further investigation.
