There will be a fresh start, and maybe a fresh approach, as commissioners revisit regulation of the use of our Plaza. City Attorney Ron Brown said the existing ordinance banning vending will have to be scrapped following a federal court ruling that four types of visual art, subject of a lawsuit, will have to be allowed.

A number of residents have submitted a variety of ideas, not only on regulation of Plaza activity but the ban on street entertainers along St. George Street as well.

Among them: a lottery system for limited locations in the Plaza, permit fees reflecting actual city costs in monitoring and maintaining the Plaza grounds, and a civic auditioning board for entertainers to be rotated among specific St. George Street locations during the day.
