Until February 16th two parks go dark

Historic City News local St. Augustine and St. Johns County news desk has learned that St. Johns County Recreation and Parks Department has implemented a light shut off program.

The program was implemented as a cost savings measure and is in place for two consecutive billing cycles at each county park.

According to a county spokesman, the program started this summer and most of the parks have already been through their mandatory shut down.

The lights at Treaty Park will be shut off December 16th through February 16th and the lights at the Beach Volleyball courts at the St. Augustine Beach Pier will be off December 25th through February 25th.

The county wants citizens to understand that these two parks are still open from dawn until dusk — even though lights will not be available for night play.

“We appreciate our citizens’ understanding for the need for these measures.”, Troy Blevins said.
