All required government approvals have been given to Ancient City Game Fish Association to construct the Andy King artificial reef 7 miles offshore from the St Augustine inlet in 65 feet of water.

The first barge load of material was deployed Friday, July 30, 2010.

The Moody tug “Miss Susan” got underway Friday morning and passed through the inlet at 7:00 a.m.

Arriving at the reef site at about 8:30 a.m., workers anchored the barge and deployed the first load of construction material that was harvested from the demolition of the temporary Bridge of Lions.

St. Augustine Port, Waterway & Beach District Commissioner Carl Blow told Historic City News local reporters that 650 tons of concrete materials were offloaded from the first barge.

“Next week Skanska will load the remaining materials to a second barge which will go out in 1 to 2 weeks,” Blow said.
