Former Chief Bill Robinson dies
Chief William Warren Robinson, age 64 of St. Augustine, FL died March 7, 2010 at his home after a three year battle with leukemia. He was born in Richmond, Virginia. He was a 1963 graduate of St. Augustine High School.
Chief Robinson retired as City of St. Augustine Chief of Police in 2000. His career with the Police Department began in February 1968 when he joined the force serving as a patrolman. In February 1974 he attained the position of Patrol Sergeant. He served as Detective Sergeant from 1975-1976 and Lieutenant from 1976-1981. He served as acting Chief of Police 1981-1982 and was the Executive Officer from 1982-1991. He was appointed Chief of Police in August 1991.
Chief Robinson received his Associate of Arts degree from St. Johns River Community College in 1970, His Bachelor of Arts degree from University of North Florida (Summa Cum Laude) in 1984. He was a graduate of the 74th Administrative Officers Course, Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville in 1984. In 1990 Chief Robinson was awarded a Master of Science from the University of North Florida. He was a 1992 graduate of 169th Session of the FBI National Academy. Chief Robinson has served as a Adjunct Professor at the University of North Florida since 1991.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Crescent Beach Baptist Church, Dr. David Beauchamp, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in Craig Memorial Park, 2600 Old Moultrie Rd. Chief Robinson is survived by his wife of 43 years Michele Claire Robinson, daughters: Amy Lynne Robinson, St. Augustine and Dana LeAnne Robinson Bennazar (Carlos Alberto Bennezar); Jacksonville, FL Sister: Mary Katherine Sanchez (Ron); St. Augustine, FL Brothers: Benjamin Donaldson Robinson, III (Barbara); St. Augustine and Francis Goldsmith Robinson (Tracey); De Leon Springs, FL Grandchildren: Ashley Lynne Wibbing, Robert Benjamin “Beau” Wibbing, Warren Alberto Bennazar and Anna Isabela Bennazar.

Flags were lowered at the St. Augustine Police Station Monday morning following news of the death of former St. Augustine Police Chief William “Bill” Robinson, who died at his home Sunday after a three year battle with leukemia diabetes. He was 64.
A veteran of 32 years with the department, he served as police chief from 1991 until his retirement in 2000. A graduate of St. Augustine High School, Chief Robinson continued his education through the University of North Florida, Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, and the FBI National Academy, ranking summa cum laude on several occasions.
That advanced law enforcement training was reflected in his service to St. Augustine. “It was Chief Robinson who took St. Augustine’s police department into the 21st century,” City Manager Bill Harriss said. “He was instrumental in bringing to our police force much of the modern technology we depend on today. He understood good basic police work, and always wanted our officers to have the very best tools.”
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Michele Claire Robinson, two daughters, one sister, two brothers, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Crescent Beach Baptist Church, with burial in Craig Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Craig Funeral Home.
