Special request to help shoe local school children

Brette Reiman, one of the organizers of the volunteer group “Hugs Across the County”, contacted the St. Johns County local news desk in hopes of finding Historic City News readers willing to help with a special need.
“One of the Title 1 elementary schools in St. Johns County have notified us that many children are in desperate need of new sneakers”, Reiman said. “Some are wearing shoes that are “two sizes too small” — others are wearing shoes without any soles on the bottom.”
Reiman is asking readers who are able to purchase and donate a pair of sneakers to one of these school children, many of whom are living near, or below, the Federal Poverty Level, to contact her organization on Facebook or e-mail them at countyhugs@yahoo.com.
Reiman said, “We are hoping to deliver sneakers next Tuesday through Thursday.”

“I wanted to share this…We brought a little kindergarten boy down right after you left. His shoes were so worn out that we couldn’t figure out what size they were (which didn’t really matter because they didn’t fit anyway). We had a little “shoe party” and he tried on several pairs until we found one that fit. He was so excited to have new shoes he practically skipped back to class. It made his day–and ours too!
Thanks,
Bailey”
